Claire grew up in South Bend under the Golden Dome. Her grandfather, father, two uncles, various cousins, her brother, and now nephew have attended the University all with the last name of Dettling. Claire feels that working here for 24 years seems quite fitting. She is also a 1992 graduate of St. Mary's College. Claire first started working in the College of Arts and Letters for two Endowed Chaired Philosophy Professors. She began her employment on the 8th floor of Flanner Hall where she worked for 15 years until she moved to Decio Family Hall. 5 years into supporting the Philosophy professors she started a position as the Administrative Assistant in the Computer Applications Program (CAPP). While supporting the professors and the computer department, in 2012, she simultaneously took over as the Business Manager for the Notre Dame Journal of Formal Logic (NDJFL) Department. In 2015 the CAPP program dissolved and became Idzik Computing and Digital Technologies (MCDT) and brought her to a new office in O’Shaughnessay Hall.

Claire continued to perform the 3 roles until the end of 2022. Then in January 2023, Claire joined the Notre Dame Law School as a Faculty Support Administrative Assistant. A year and a half later she now joins the Student Activities Office (SAO) as the Student Union Administrative Assistant for the Student Government in LaFortune Student Center. She’s happy to support students and their many endeavors here.

Outside of work, Claire enjoys her 6 children and all the joys they bring to her life. Claire strives to be soft-hearted and extremely patient and a strong source of support for others. Claire hopes that one day she will be able to travel more and focus on her own personal interests as her kids move on into their adult lives. Claire loves being a part of the Notre Dame community.
