Shamrock Leadership Series - Spring 2024

The Shamrock Leadership Series (SLS) engages members of the Notre Dame community in creating and sustaining a culture of lifelong leadership development, training, and education. SLS seeks to empower students to become everyday leaders by facilitating and encouraging opportunities for the advancement of the mission of the University of Notre Dame through co-curricular learning, intentional engagement, self- reflection, and professional development. This program seeks to create leadership in excellence through the transformative experience of the SLS.

Shamrock Leadership Series Book Club

Dive into developing your leadership skills this Winter Break with the Shamrock Leadership Series Book Club. Participants will be reading Leadership is a Relationship: How to Put People First in the Digital World by Michael S. Erwin and Willys DeVoll over the break and upon return to campus in the Spring Semester, the cohort will gather in critical group discussions about their thoughts, points, interpretations, and research highlighted in the book. It will be a space for open-dialogue to ask questions and dig deeper into the guided content with peers. 

Leadership is a Relationship: How to Put People First in the Digital World by Michael S. Erwin and Willys DeVoll delivers an insightful collection of interviews with leaders who have succeeded by prioritizing the wellbeing of other people. This book shows how you too can become a relationship-based leader and thrive in our chaotic, digital world.

First-Year Institute 2024

The Student Activities Office (SAO) hosts this premier leadership seminar each Spring exclusively for first-year students. We search for enthusiastic First-Year students that are seeking to strengthen and expand their capacity for leadership. You can expect to connect with peer leaders, hear from prominent leaders in the field, and develop your leadership skills.

The First-Year Institute is the foundational course of the Student Activities Office’s Shamrock Leadership Series, focusing on individual leadership skills. Students will learn to identify, strengthen, and expand their capacity for leadership within the framework of the University of Notre Dame’s Catholic teachings and legacy.

Outcomes: 

  1. Intrapersonal Development & Competence: Utilizing 16 Personalities and Clifton Strengths for Students by Don Clifton, students will identify and articulate personal strengths and areas for growth and self-exploration. 
  2. Leadership Acquisition and Application: Through curated presentations on leadership theories, experiences, and empirical research students will discuss the importance of personal and leadership development through values building and skill practice. 
  3. Social Responsibility: Integrate the university’s mission with Catholic Social Teaching and connect its application to individual strengths.
