PERFORMING ARTS CLUBS

Bagpipe Band, University of Notre Dame

The purpose of this organization is to instruct students to play the bagpipes and drums so that they can represent the University of Notre Dame at various functions and increase school spirit.

Ballet Folklorico Azul Y Oro
The purpose of Ballet Folklorico Azul y Oro is to promote a cultural awareness, both educational and social, to ND and SMC representing students, alumni, faculty, and staff members interested in Hispanic culture.

Ballroom Dance Club, ND/SMC

To provide the students, faculty, and staff of the Notre Dame, St. Mary’s, and Holy Cross communities with an opportunity to learn and enjoy ballroom dance, whether at leisure or through competition. The club functions primarily as a social club, whereby members meet weekly to dance, but optional further technical and advanced instruction is available for those who wish to compete.

Bands, Student Organization of the University of Notre Dame
The purpose of the Student Organization of the University of Notre Dame Bands shall be the following:
1) To serve and represent the University of Notre Dame Bands
2) To provide an opportunity for student participation in organized band activities
3) To provide for its members opportunities for musical expression, leadership, fellowship, and cooperative effort

Big Yellow Taxi
The purpose of BYT shall be to foster musical growth and development through vocal a cappella performance geared to, but not limited to, the Notre Dame community. Furthermore, the purpose of BYT shall be to donate a significant portion of its profit to a worthy charity. Whenever possible, the charity should be one in which a BYT member has done direct service (such as a CSC fall or spring break service trip). BYT will work toward its goals by:
A. coordinating at least one performance every semester
B. offering a variety of a cappella repertoire in order to develop musical growth in several different genres, namely barbershop, sacred music, and unaccompanied men’s voices
C. coordinating concerts with a charity either through the CSC or through other means before the semi-annual concert

Celebration Choir, University of Notre Dame

The purpose of this organization shall be to foster a spirit of worship and praise throughout the Notre Dame/Saint Mary’s/Holy Cross community and to spread that spirit outside the boundaries of the three campuses. This will be accomplished mainly through the ministries of music and service; including, but not limited to, the following:
– providing music for Sunday, Holy Day, and Occasional Masses, upon request, for residence Halls, campus organizations, and the Basilica of the Sacred Heart staff.
- providing musical accompaniment for the weekly meetings of the Interfaith Prayer Group.
- performing concerts for the greater Notre Dame community.
- providing musical services for organizations in the Michiana region, upon request.
– participating in service activities in the Michiana region.

Chorale
Is a primarily undergraduate mixed choral group functioning within the Department of Music. The Chorale's repertoire consists of sacred and secular music. The activities of the Notre Dame Chorale are designed to serve as a unifying factor for the members and are targeted towards the goal of increased musical proficiency. Keeping with this intention, the members of the Notre Dame Chorale establish this Constitution to ensure its effective and efficient operation and to promote the musical talents of its members.

Coro Primavera de Nuestra Senora, El
To enhance the University community through the expression and celebration of singing praises to the Lord in Spanish and to foster a Christian community to those interested in praising the Lord in Spanish.

Dance Company

The purpose of DCND will be to provide students who enjoy dance to have the opportunity to practice and perform their preferred genre of dance, including jazz, modern, ballet, hip-hop and lyrical. The club will fulfill this purpose by:
A. Coordinating regular meetings, which will consist of technical practice and discussion of relevant issues relating to impending events. Meetings before upcoming performance will mainly focus on rehearsal of the dances.
B. Meeting with the advisor regularly for critiques on our performance pieces as well as discussing issues regarding finance and planning.
C. Planning performances for the academic year at Notre Dame for the students and at other locations for community service. Three annual performances will be held on campus: a fall, winter, and spring show. Other performances, such as a Christmas show, will be done at elderly facilities and other similar locations throughout the year.
The Dance Company of Notre Dame is a student-run club that performs once per semester. The styles of dancing that are practiced and performed include ballet, pointe, jazz, modern, lyrical and hiphop.

Farley Hall Players
The purpose of this organization is to produce an annual theatrical piece, with preference to performing works that promote intellectual growth, that encourage community participation, and that may not have another outlet on campus.

First Class Steppers of Notre Dame
The purpose of the club is to educate the greater area of South Bend, especially the community of Notre Dame, of the African-American tradition and culture of step dancing.

Folk Choir, Notre Dame
The purpose of the Notre Dame Folk Choir is to promote the singing and praying of the community at the University of Notre Dame. The Folk Choir is one of the principal ensembles of the Basilica of the Sacred Heart at Notre Dame, providing music for the weekly 11:45am Sunday liturgy.

Glee Club, University of Notre Dame
The University of Notre Dame Glee Club is a male choral group functioning within the Department of Music, and operating under the auspices of the Office for Student Affairs. The function of the Notre Dame Glee Club is twofold:
a) to represent the University in vocal performances on and off campus and
b) to provide social activities for its members.

Halftime
The purpose of Halftime shall be:
1) to perform co-educational a cappella music on and off campus;
2) to provide an environment for students to create and develop their own a cappella arrangements of popular music.
Halftime will perform music arranged only by members or former members of the group.

Handbell Choir, The Notre Dame
The purpose of this organization is to provide music for the congregation of the Basilica of the Sacred Heart and the community of Notre Dame.

Harmonia
The purpose of Harmonia shall be to provide a cappella vocal opportunities for the women of Notre Dame and Saint Mary's. Harmonia will work towards its goals by: A. Having regular practice sessions, B. Providing performance opportunities at campus events, C. Hosting spring and fall concert events.

Humor Artists of the University of Notre Dame du Lac
We, the Humor Artists of the University of Notre Dame du Lac, seek to provide free, spirited, and genuine entertainment for the ND/SMC community as well as a chance for members of this community to develop and demonstrate their ability to be savvy and witty both in writing and performance.

Irish Dance Club, The
The purpose is to choreograph, teach, and perform traditional Irish step dancing and to promote and spread the Irish culture.

The Notre Dame Juggling Club exists to serve the students on the Notre Dame campus who wish to advance their juggling skills and those skills associated with juggling, i.e. unicycling.

Not-So-Royal Shakespeare Company
Mission: To provide greater opportunity for Notre Dame students and faculty to perform the plays of William Shakespeare; to provide an enjoyable, professional, and approachable presentation of Shakespeare's works to the ND community.

Pasquerilla East Musical Company
This is strictly a musical theatre group and will sponsor and produce only those shows which involve music.

Project Fresh
The purpose of this club is to educate the ND, Holy Cross, and St. Mary's communities about one of the four elements of hip-hop: bboying a.k.a. breakdancing. The group hopes to bring in other funk styles, such as popping, locking, waving, and the other various styles that emerged in the era of breakdancing's birth. They also hope to break down the ethnic, age, and gender boundaries by unifying people through the medium of breakdancing.

Saint Edward's Hall Players
To provide the ND/SMC community with entertainment in the form of an annual dramatic presentation, to enrich the organization’s members theatrical experience, in whatever capacity, and to further the advancement of the Student-Run Theater at Notre Dame.

Student Players, The Notre Dame

The goal of the ND Student Players is to provide funding and resources for students at Notre Dame, Saint Mary’s and Holy Cross to produce, direct and act in theatrical productions and other presentation.

Student Stand-ups of Notre Dame
The purpose of SSND shall be to maintain a community of young Notre Dame student stand-up comedians who will regularly provide entertainment for the student body. SSND will work toward its goals by:
A. offering the opportunity for interested students to learn about the art form from more experienced student comedians,
B. meeting with each other in a workshop environment to develop and work on material, and
C. organizing and performing regular stand-up showcases in venues on campus

Swing Club
The purpose of the Swing Club is to provide the communities of Notre Dame, St. Mary's, and Holy Cross with an opportunity to learn and enjoy swing dancing. The goal of the club is to learn steps and enhance one's level of dancing, in addition to meeting a number of people with a similar interest. The focus of the lessons will be on various forms of Swing dancing.

Symphony Orchestra

The purpose of the NDSO shall be to serve as the official orchestra of Notre Dame, consisting primarily of undergraduate and graduate students and functioning within the Department of Music.

Troop Notre Dame
The mission statement of Troop ND is to promote multiculturalism and enjoyment through hip-hop dance not only on the Notre Dame and St. Mary's campuses, but at off campus locations as well. In addition, we strive to unify the "traditional" atmosphere of Notre Dame with the "nontraditional" style of hip-hop dance by performing at numerous events through out campus and for community and fundraising events.

Unchained Melodies
The purpose of Unchained Melodies shall be to worship and praise God through a cappella music and minister to the students of the University of Notre Dame, Saint Mary’s College and Holy Cross College through its music. Unchained Melodies will work toward its goals by:
A. Holding a minimum of two practices a week while school is in session.
B. Performing its music at campus events and club hosted concerts.
C. Emphasizing the importance of God in all of our lives through prayer and music.

Voices of Faith Gospel Choir, University of Notre Dame

The purpose of this organization is to enrich the Notre Dame community through gospel music and to establish and maintain a spiritual link between Notre Dame and the outside communities.
