ATHLETIC CLUBS

This alphabetical club listing represents student athletic clubs registered for the 2009-2010 academic year.  If you would like to have a link added to your club listing, contact the Student Activities Office.

Bowling Club
The purpose of the Notre Dame Bowling Club Program will be to provide an additional extra-curricular program for Notre Dame, Saint Mary’s and Holy Cross students.  The Club’s mission focuses on the serious and dedicated competitive bowlers that will be representing Notre Dame in intercollegiate competition throughout the country. Campus and InterHall leagues will be run in conjunction with the RecSports program.  Those wishing to enhance their bowling skills will be given the opportunity.  The bowling club will be open to all persons wishing to improve their bowling skills.

Boxing Club, Notre Dame Men's
To promote interest in the sport of bowing, to promote physical conditioning, and in the spring semester of each year, to present a boxing tournament to raise money for the Holy Cross Missions.

Boxing Club, Notre Dame Women's

To introduce new members into the sport of boxing, teach and develop techniques, and promote team unity and growth.

Climbing Club, Notre Dame
The purpose of this club shall be to foster spirit in Notre Dame. This will be accomplished by the following means:
* regular presence at the Climbing Wall in the Rockne Memorial Building.
* trips to expose members to both outdoor and indoor climbing.
* special orientations and training sessions to improve both the quality and level of rock climbing at Notre Dame.

Cycling Club, Notre Dame
Essentially, the Notre Dame Cycling Club matches riders of all skill levels, and surface preferences (both road and mountain) with each other in its weekly and bi-weekly rides. The club provides transportation to rides both within the immediate area, and other locales within the Midwest, allowing people with common interests in cycling to share fun experiences in the outdoors. The club also subsidies racing expenses for those who with to compete in the Midwest Collegiate Cycling Conference races.

Equestrian Club, ND/SMC
To promote interest in the equestrian arts, provide the opportunity to develop and improve horsemanship skills, and foster the spirit of competition through attendance or participation in intercollegiate horse shows.

Field Hockey Club, Notre Dame
To provide an opportunity for students to participate in the sport of field hockey.

Figure Skating Club, Notre Dame
The purpose of the club is to enable women and men who have some experience in the sport of figure skating to have ice time devoted only to figure skating. Through practice on ice (and optional off-ice) the figure skater can develop more skills and benefit through the knowledge of fellow members. Since figure skating is very personalized, the level at which each person skates and the progress that he/she makes is individualized. In addition, the Notre Dame Figure Skating Club will have a synchronized skating team which will require more discipline. This team will be more goal oriented in the sense that it will compete against other collegiate teams at a local and national level.

Fishing Club
The purpose of this club shall be to bring together students that share an interest and passion for fishing of all sorts. The club shall serve as a meeting point and starting ground for students to come together, to learn the fundamentals of the sport, to further perfect technique and style, and to put students on the water and fishing.

Gymnastics Club of ND, SMC & HCC
The purpose of the club is
1. To pursue the sport of gymnastics through skill development in daily practices and through competition with clubs and teams from other universities.
2. To provide a relaxed and social atmosphere in which members of any and all levels of gymnastics experience can improve their skills while enjoying the company of those sharing the same interest in gymnastics.

Ice Hockey, Notre Dame Women's

The purpose of NDWIHT shall be to provide an opportunity for the female students of Notre Dame to participate in the sport of women’s ice hockey. NDWIHT will work towards its goal by:
A. coordinating practice times and a game schedule,
B. providing opportunities for fundraising to pay for related expenses,
C. promoting the sport of women’s ice hockey to the Notre Dame and South Bend communities.

Martial Arts Institute, Notre Dame
NDMAI exists as an organization within the University of Notre Dame and Saint Mary’s College with the purpose of teaching its members the techniques and forms of the martial arts established by the organizations founding members and teachers. The motto is “The need to defend one’s life need not be by appointment, but may occur at any unorthodox time, therefore the forms and techniques of the martial arts are naturally endless."

Men's Running Club
To promote the physical, emotional, and social benefits of running. To give male runners at Notre Dame and Holy Cross the opportunity to run with others, to encourage team-like relationships and friendship among members, and to provide both advanced and beginning level runners with companionship, safety, and competition.

Pom Pon Squad, University of Notre Dame
The purpose of the Notre Dame Pom Pon Squad is to promote and enhance the spirit of the Notre Dame community through dance and other spirit related performances at athletic and campus events. The Pom Pon Squad brings to Notre Dame students and the community the enthusiasm, spirit, determination, and dedication characteristic of our great university’s ideals, which the members of the Pom Pon Squad strive to embody. The Pom Pon Squad shall wholeheartedly recognize our responsibility and obligation to uphold the good name, ideals, spirit, and tradition upon which this great organization is built and continues to grow.
The Pom Pon Squad shall continue its efforts to work with the athletic department to provide entertainment and spirit at various athletic and related events.
The Pom Squad also functions to perform at various dorm and charity events across campus and the community.

Rowing Club, Notre Dame (Men’s Crew)
The purpose of the Rowing Club is
- To arrange and promote, for the benefit of all the members of the NDRC, intercollegiate rowing competition on a regional and national level.
- To provide the highest quality competitive rowing instruction to all members.

Rugby Club
The Rugby Club's goals are to field a rugby team representing the University of Notre Dame to compete with other collegiate and club teams while abiding by the rules of the University of Notre Dame, USA Rugby, and the International Rugby Board, and to promote the physical education, mental and social wellbeing, and sportsmanship of members of the club through participation in and the playing of this internationally recognized sport.

Running Club, Women's
The purpose of this club is to bring together fun, low-key girls who love to run! We have informal practices during the weeks and participate in a variety of runs both on and off campus.

Sailing Club, Notre Dame/Saint Mary's
It is our aim to promote interest in the sport of sailing through lessons and intercollegiate racing while enhancing the educational experience and reflecting the mission of our University. The Sailing Club shall provide opportunity for participation in organized recreational and competitive activities for all levels of experience and expertise.

Squash Club
The purpose of NDSC shall be to foster athletic and social development through the organization of students in recreational and competitive squash. NDSC will work toward its goals by:
A. establishing at least one regularly scheduled evening of squash matches per week,
B. maintaining a roster of members who may be contacted for additional matches,
C. conducting a scoring system by which members may compete amongst themselves for rankings.

Triathlon Club
The purpose of TCND shall be to advance the physical fitness of its members. Specifically, the club will provide training for individuals to help them prepare for triathlons. TCND will work toward its goals by coordinating regular practices.

Ultimate Frisbee Club, Notre Dame
The Notre Dame Ultimate Club was formed to participate in the intercollegiate sport of Ultimate Frisbee. We hope to play other area collegiate teams in Ultimate at tournaments held throughout the year, with the majority occurring in the spring. Ultimate Frisbee is an excellent cross-training sport, combining speed, endurance, quickness, intelligence and guts.

Volleyball, Men's Club Notre Dame

The purpose of this club shall be to develop volleyball skills and compete at a national collegiate level. This will be accomplished by the following means:
* holding team practices three times a week.
* attending numerous tournaments and other match play across the nation.

Water Polo Club, Men's
1. The purpose of the Men's Water Polo club is to provide the students of the University of Notre Dame and Holy Cross College with the opportunity to participate in the sport of water polo at the intercollegiate level. The student will be able to maintain top physical condition by participating in water polo. Also, personal relationships with students of other universities and here at Notre Dame can be formed. Through the knowledge gained by participating in this sport, the student will be able to instruct others in basics of water polo. Our principle objectives are:
1. Represent the University in intercollegiate competition
2. Provide club members with an opportunity to participate in an extracurricular activity that enhances their physical and social wellbeing
3. Allow members to participate in a self-governed organization at the university

Water Polo Club, Women's Notre Dame duLac
The purpose of our organization is to provide the students of the University of Notre Dame with the opportunity to participate in water polo at the intercollegiate level. The student will be able to maintain top physical condition by participation in water polo. Also, personal relationships with students of other university and here at Notre Dame can be formed. Through the knowledge gained by participating in this sport, the student will be able to instruct others in the basics of the Olympic game of water polo. Our principle objectives would then be:
* Represent the University in another intercollegiate sport
* Provide its members with a chance to participate in an extracurricular activity, enhancing each student's experiences while at the University
* Allow the student to participate in a self-governed organization at the University

Waterski Club of Notre Dame
The Waterski Club of Notre Dame will promote competition with other colleges throughout the United States in National Collegiate Waterski Association (NCWSA) sanctioned tournaments.  Notre Dame shall belong and compete in the Great Lakes Conference of the NCWSA where other colleges from the Midwest compete.  At the end of the season, eligible teams in the Great Lakes Conference compete in the Regional Championships where the top five teams move onto the National Championships.

World Taekwondo Federation Club
The goal of this club is to learn the true Korean martial art of Taekwondo. In achieving this goal, the members will understand the spirit of Taekwondo--courtesy, integrity, perseverance, self control, and indomitable spirit. Through rigorous workouts, the members will develop self control, participate in regular cardiovascular workouts, relieve stress and develop social skills that will benefit them all their life.
